Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been hospitalised due to stress, according to reports from the BBC and AFP.
Blatter, 79, was provisionally suspended for 90 days last month amid the ongoing corruption scandal at FIFA and suffered “a small breakdown” according to the BBC, although is expected to make a full recovery.
Blatter’s lawyer, Richard Cullen, had said last week that the Swiss was in hospital for a medical checkup on Friday.
His statement came shortly after Blatter’s spokesman, Klaus Stohlker, said the 79-year-old was under “medical evaluation” for stress-related reasons and had been told by doctors to relax.
Stohlker told The Associated Press that Blatter is “under a huge pressure” and had been told to rest.
“He is now, at this moment in hospital,” Stoehlker added to AFP. “He is preparing to leave on Monday and will be back on the job on Tuesday.”
