In an apparent bid to reduce traffic in Abuja especially along the ever busy Umaru Yar’Adua expressway which leads to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, President Muhammadu Buhari flew in a helicopter from Aso Rock Villa to the airport as he departed for Iran.
President Buhari departed Nigeria for Tehran, Iran today, Sunday, November 22 to participate in the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries’ Forum (GECF) slated for Monday, November 23.
Abuja residents have always complained that they have to endure long hours of traffic as the 10-lane expressway is often closed for prolonged periods even before the president’s convoy hits the road, which halts the flow of traffic along that axis. The president’s decision to use a helicopter instead of the road will be considered a welcomed gesture by Abuja residents.
According to Mallam Garba Shehu, President Buhari and the leaders of Iran, Russia, Qatar, the Netherlands, Venezuela, Oman, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Bolivia and other member-countries of the GECF are expected to review the current market outlook on gas and discuss strategies for boosting gas production during their meeting in Tehran.
