Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has described the Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, the late Prince Abubakar Audu, as a consummate politician whose demise is a big blow to the nation.
Kalu, who acknowledged the late politician as a selfless leader, noted that he was committed to the plight of his people.
In a statement issued yesterday by his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu said: “I received with rude shock and sadness the news of the passing of my former colleague and friend, Prince Abubakar Audu.
“He was hale and hearty when I visited him in Lokoja a few days ago before the November 21 governorship election in Kogi State.”
Narrating his recent visit to Audu before last weekend’s election, Kalu said: “We cracked jokes and discussed for a long time. His demise is, indeed, a personal loss to me and my family.
“Prince Audu built friendship beyond political and ethnic divides. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and political associates. May God rest his soul.”
Kalu urged the Audu family to take solace in the fact that their patriarch lived a purposeful life and contributed to the socio-political development of Nigeria.
While commiserating with the government and people of Kogi State and the APC, he prayed for the repose of the departed soul.
